And Just Like That...

And just like that…

I started watching the sex and the city show “And just like that” on HBO Max and to not give the plot away just know that the cast are now 50 something women.  Although still glamorous, they now sport gray hair and some wrinkles.

What I find unfortunate is the backlash the cast has gotten because they are presenting themselves as real 50 something women and not unrealistic photoshopped women.

“There’s so much misogynist chatter in response to us that would never. Happen. About. A. Man.,” Sarah Jessica Parker who plays Carrie had told Vogue for her December cover shoot. “’Gray hair, gray hair, gray hair. Does she have gray hair?”

As women, we get an early message that as we get older we need to work hard not to look older.  I remember when I recently colored my hair blond, a male friend asked me if I was coloring the gray. Why can’t I just want a fun color?

I am all about owning all of my 62 years but I refuse to use my age as a reason to automatically embrace all the things our society looks at as old. Sure, I will take advantage of the 55+ discounts but I’m not ready for the rocking chair life just yet.

We can still be a glamorous as the women on the show and grow out our gray hair and have our wrinkles and crows feet front and center or not

This is the time for us to be fully present for who we are, who we have become and are meant to be at this season of our lives.

Embrace who you are at your age. You’ve earned it.
