3 Reason's Women Need to Undiet Their Life After 40
Society has put unrealistic expectations on how women are suppose to look. The ads show a type of woman that we should strive to be. Although there have been some changes in how fashion represents plus size models, there is still an expectation to how you “should” look.
In order to live up to what societies norm is, women have dieted to fit the mold of what size women should be. I remember the 70’s group the Commodores song Brick House where they describe their perfect woman as 36-24-36. I remember thinking that is what should be achieved to be the perfect woman.
As we get older, our focus should be on healthy and not on size.
According to @menopause.nutritionist on IG, women over 40 should undiet their life after 40. She gives three reasons why.
Weight-Loss Won’t Protect You From A Negative Self-Image
Despite the promises made by diet culture, losing weight won’t stop you from judging yourself when you look in the mirror, or dread having your picture taken. So don’t hang your hat on the scale to help you feel better about yourself. Working towards a better body image is an inside job.
Weight-Loss Doesn’t Guarantee Health
The choices and behavior’s required to produce and maintain weight loss often have negative effects that don’t support health. Hormone imbalances, metabolic dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies and the psychological stress caused by always feeling like you’re fighting your body are just some of the side effects of chronic dieting that aren’t risk-free.
Life Is Too Short To Always Be On A Diet
The average 45-year old women has been on 61 diets since the age of 16.
Women spend an estimated total of 17 years of their lifetime on a diet.
Dieting is a life thief. you deserve to find food freedom and body confidence. And you don’t have to give up on health to get there
If you have coached with me on weight loss you know my favorite phrase is that the scale is a liar. The scale causes unneeded stress. Example: If you have a goal to loose 5 lbs and your meals and exercise are on point but your scale does not reflect your hard work, ask yourself, How do my clothes fit? Your fat turned in to muscle and the scale may not move but there is progress there.
I am a non-diet wellness coach. I believe that you should be able to enjoy life and be the healthiest you that you can possibly be without depriving yourself of the good things in life.
Being in the season of menopause does not mean we should give up and accept that we are getting older, we are getting heavier, and it is what it is. I say fight for your health. If you need to cut out certain things to stay healthy, do that but do not give up on life because of a diagnosis, size, or age. You have so much more to give this world.
